Jose Enrique
Born in Valencia, Spain, Jose Enrique is a twenty -five year old defender that has so far, made eleven appearances for the Merseyside club. Joining Liverpool in August 2011 from Newcastle United, he has a reputation as one of the most promising left backs in the game, and made a great impression on the Toon faithful during his time on Tyneside, as people enjoyed his elegant style and never-say-die attitude. Enrique’s footballing journey started after he had spells at Villareal, Celta Vigo and Valencia however. After putting in numerous good performances, Enrique started to get a reputation as a great all-round player and by the 2007-08 campaign, he was known to be one of the hottest properties in European football. Despite interest from Liverpool and Manchester City however, it was Newcastle who captured his signature on a five year deal which led to the Spaniard making 28 appearances for the club, although he wasn’t able to prevent their slide into the Championship. Whilst many Premier League clubs tried to snap him up after Newcastle were relegated, Enrique refused to go until he brought top flight football back to Newcastle again. He did this with some style too, as he not only helped them straight back into the Premier League the following season, he also won the Player of the Season 2009-10. Despite notching up 129 appearances and scoring one goal for the club however, the 1.84 metre defender made his move to Liverpool at the start of this year’s campaign.
